Biography
Adam graduated from the University of Manchester in October 2001 and proceeded to complete his pre-registration training at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 2002. He went on to complete a residency at Nottingham City Hospital in 2004 where he developed an interest in paediatric pharmacy. He took his first paediatric specialist pharmacist post at Newham University Hospitals NHS Trust in April 2004 where he set up a clinical pharmacy service to a PCT-run paediatric in-patient unit. He also established a sessional clinical service to Richard House Children's Hospice in Beckton in 2005. During his time in London he developed an interest in paediatric emergency medicine and intensive care. His experience of paediatric disaster management during the London Bombings in July 2005 saw him take up post as Clinical Pharmacist for Paediatric Intensive Care at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow in August 2005.
While in Glasgow Adam was a key member of the project team that set up and implemented electronic prescribing in PICU which at the time was a UK first. His MSc thesis was entitled "The Impact of Electronic Prescribing on Medication Prescribing Errors in Paediatric Intensive Care" and was submitted in October 2007. During his tenure in Glasgow Adam became an active member of the NPPG and the PICU Pharmacists Group organising study days and contributing to conferences in Monaco, Glasgow, and Dublin. In April 2010, Adam moved to Manchester to take up the post of Clinical Pharmacist for PICU at the newly opened Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Here he has flourished - he was appointed to the BNF Paediatric Formulary Committee in October 2011 in recognition of his broad experience of paediatric pharmacy practice and his passion for ensuring that children receive the best medicines possible. In April 2012 he was elected Chair of the PICU Pharmacists Group by his peers, and in October 2011 he was elected to the committee of the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group. In July 2014, he was accepted into the Faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society as a Faculty Fellow - the highest possible level of practice.
