Harvard Graduate School of Education

Alex R Hodges is the Librarian & Director of the Monroe C. Gutman Library at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he is also teaches research and writing as Lecturer on Education. Before joining Harvard, Alex served as a tenured faculty member from 2011-2017 (pre-tenure from 2004-2011) at American University in Washington, DC. During that time, he was associate director for instruction and research services, curriculum materials and education librarian in the University Library, and affiliate associate professor of education in the AU School of Education. He taught educational technology integration, critical literacy, and children's literature courses in the teacher education program from 2008-2017.

Prior to 2004, Alex worked within library systems at the National Gallery of Art (U.S.), the University of Maryland, College Park, and at the University of Florida. Outside of Harvard, Alex is a doctoral candidate in educational technology at the University of Florida's College of Education. His dissertation research and other scholarship focuses on information literacy curriculum adoption within high-impact teaching practices. In addition to his Master of Library Science degree, Alex holds a graduate certificate in TESOL and applied linguistics.
