Biography

University of St. Gallen

Alexander Braun is Associate Professor of Insurance and Capital Markets at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and Director at the Institute of Insurance Economics. He completed his studies in Business Administration at the University of Mannheim in Germany and obtained a PhD in Finance as well as the Venia Legendi from the University of St. Gallen. Before his academic career, he worked in the capital markets division of Lehman Brothers in London. The research and teaching activities of Mr. Braun are centered on the convergence of capital and insurance markets, particularly solutions for extreme event risk such as alternative capital and insurance-linked securities. His work has been published in the leading journals of the field, such as the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the Journal of Banking and Finance, and the European Journal of Operational Research.
