Altan Ercan

Assistant Professor at Abdullah Gül Üniversitesi

Biography

-

I am acurrently working at Molecular Biology and Genetics department in Abdullah Gul University. Before this position, I was a faculty as an assistant professor in Harvard Medical School. I am a glycol-immunologist with an extensive background in the field of protein chemistry, glycobiology in general, and enzymology. My recent works were focused on immunoglobulin G glycosylation in health and disease such a rheumatoid arthritis and regulation of this glycans by sex hormones such as estrogen and testosterone.

In my laboratory, I have two objectives. The first one is to educate our students to a level which they can be open minded and objective thinkers equipped with the latest knowledge in the field of molecular biology and genetic to be able to compete with the rest of the student in the world. The second one is to go further than that and teach them how to design, execute and interoperate experimental results. This will certainly give an edge to our student when they graduate.

The research in my laboratory follows my research topics from Harvard Medical School which are glycosylation of immunoglobulin G (IgG), effect of sex hormone on immunes system but certainly my scientific interest is not limited to this topics.
