Biography
Dr Andrea Bottacin-Busolin joined the University of Manchester as a Lecturer in Water Engineering in January 2014. He obtained a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering Sciences and an MSc in Environmental Engineering from the University of Padua, Italy. After completing his PhD studies, Andrea worked as an engineering consultant specializing in hydraulic engineering services and micro-hydropower technologies. He later joined the Department of Land and Water Resources Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden, where he served as Assistant Professor until taking up his current position.
Andrea''s research interests cut across environmental fluid dynamics, hydrology and water resources management. A major focus of his research has been the modelling of flow and transport processes in fluvial environment, with an emphasis on surface-subsurface interactions. He has also worked on the application of stochastic optimisation methods and dynamic programming techniques to the operation of water reservoir networks for generation of hydroelectric power and mitigation of flood risk. His current research interests include:
- Modelling of transport phenomena in turbulent flows over porous beds
- Reactive transport modelling of CO2 leakage from geological storage sites
- Integrated flood risk assessment and management
- Data assimilation and uncertainty analysis of hydro-environmental models
