Full Professor of Organization and Innovation, Andrea Prencipe has been Rector of Luiss Guido Carli University since June 2018. He served as Deputy Rector from 2016 to 2018 and Associate Dean of Luiss Business School from 2015 to 2018.

Born in 1968 in Manfredonia (Apulian) he earned his High School degree at the Liceo Scientifico Galileo Galilei, in the same town. He then earned a BA at the University Gabriele d’Annunzio, Chieti-Pescara, and an MA in ‘Management of Innovation’ at the S. Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa. Andrea moved to the UK to further pursue his passion of innovation studies to earn a MSc in ‘Technology Innovation Management’, and a PhD in ‘Science and Technology Policy Studies’ at SPRU-University of Sussex (UK).

He has been Visiting Professor at the Rotterdam School of Management, at the BI School of Management, Oslo, at the Imperial College Business School – Imperial College, London, as well as Honorary Professor at SPRU (University of Sussex). Andrea has held seminars and classes in various prestigious universities such as Harvard Business School (USA), London Business School (UK), University of Michigan (USA), University of Oxford (UK), University of Linköping (Sweden), Cass Business School at City University (UK).

As an academic, Andrea Prencipe has held positions at SPRU (University of Sussex), INSEAD as well as at the Università G. d’Annunzio. He has been the Scientific Director of FHINK, the Corporate Master’s Programme in International Business Engineering developed by Finmeccanica Group.

His works have been published in international journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Industrial and Corporate Change, Organization Science as well as by publishers such as Franco Angeli and Oxford University Press. He is also Associate Editor of the Journal of Management Studies, and he sits on the Editorial Board of Organization Science, Economia e Politica Industriale, Industrial and Corporate Change, International Journal of Project Management, Long Range Planning and Research Policy. He was local coordinator of several projects funded under the FIRB (Basic research investment fund) and PRIN, beyond coordinating other projects funded by local institutions and private companies.

Andrea’s research interest are organization of innovative processes, learning and routine in temporary organizations, the relationships between regional social capital and business innovation processes, the role of cultural issues on firms’ and counties innovation processes. Andrea argues that innovation consists in technological and organizational changes that generate social and economic value: innovation is in fact a key competitive lever for companies, organizations, regions and Countries. Over time, he has become increasingly convinced that studying innovation processes requires micro-founded understanding of its underlying dynamics. That is why he moved on to study projects teams and the role of single individuals.

In his career, he has received several acknowledgements: the “Roy Rothwell Prize” for the best MSc dissertation at SPRU (1994/1995), the “Virgo Fidelis” Prize in 2017, the “100 Eccellenze Italiane” prize, the “Delfino d’Oro” and the Argos Hippium prizes in 2018. In 2019 he was awarded the XXVIII International Prize for Culture “Re Manfredi”, and the “Benigno e Filomena Suffoletta” Prize as a distinguished professional.

Since September 2020 he has been a member of the Special Friends Group, a consultative structure of the UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency) in Italy.
