Biography

Andy graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1990 with an Honours degree in Veterinary Science and first worked as a House Surgeon at the University of Liverpool Small Animal Hospital. He then moved to Manchester University to carry out his PhD on the role of canine distemper virus (CDV) in canine bone disorders, and then began a MRC research fellowship investigating the molecular biology of the vitamin D receptor. He then obtained a Wellcome Trust Veterinary Research Fellowship to work on the role of CDV in human Paget’s disease of bone, before becoming a Lecturer in Medicine at the University, a post he held for 8 years. More recently Andy has worked in the NHS, firstly as a Divisional Research Manager at Central Manchester Foundation Trust and latterly as the Research and Innovation Manager at Manchester Mental Health and Social Care NHS Trust (MMHSCT). Whilst working at MMHSCT, he studied on the Global Accelerated MBA programme at Manchester Business School, gaining his MBA in December 2013. He is now Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Management at AMBS, primarily working on the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme.
