Biography
Professor Sherman is a leading expert on initial public offering (IPO) methods, particularly on the use of auctions. She was a consultant for Google on its IPO, testified before a Senate Subcommittee investigating the IPO process, and has been interviewed by various publications including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Financial Times, Forbes, Fortune and Business Week. In addition to IPOs, Sherman has published research on auctions, seasoned equity offerings and corporate financial liquidity, and has done theoretical, empirical and experimental research. Top journals that have published her research include the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Review of Financial Studies. She received her PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota, where she was a research assistant for Nobel Laureate Professor Edward Prescott, her dissertation advisor. She received her BA from Columbia University (Barnard College), magna cum laude.
