Biography
UW Professional & Continuing Education
Online teaching is Anne Tuominen’s specialty. She began teaching Sociology of Family for UW Professional & Continuing Education in 2001, developing new and engaging iterations of the course as e-learning technologies have evolved.
Tuominen holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Washington and has published on multicultural families’ language choices. Her dissertation research on tourism and post-Soviet Estonia was supported by a U.S. Department of Education Foreign Language and Areas of Study fellowship and added to the small trove of languages she speaks. In 2015, she received the Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Service Award from Cascadia College. She also teaches sociology online for Western Washington University.
