Biography

What if a single strategy could prevent every disease? As you get older your risk for disease increases because your stem cells fail to maintain healthy tissues. I study how stem cells work with the purpose of keeping them functional, and your tissues healthy, in old age. My dream is an intervention that sustains natural healing so you can age gracefully. Whereas the body has intrinsic mechanisms to heal physical injuries, mental injuries and stresses require attention to spot and heal. I am Stanford-certified to facilitate meditative and communicative exercises based on neuroscience and neuroimaging research. The goal is to help trainees understand how their minds work and offer them tools to regenerate the mind during stressful times. Just like your body needs stem cells to heal, professional success requires good communication. At Stanford I developed research-based communication methods that help you tap into inner strength, find purpose, and articulate value so you get heard and succeed. These methods enabled students to get jobs, grants, and better relations. Success invariably leads to management tasks. In the Stanford GSB Ignite program I learned to lead teams and translate research to market. As elected leader of 2,000+ Stanford postdocs I learned hands-on about university operations and achieved policy changes in benefits, teaching and scientific training; all recognized by leading organizations like Science and National Postdoctoral Association. Specialties: stem cells, aging, RNA, protein purification, mouse genetics, post-transcriptional regulation, human genetics, muscular dystrophy, science writing, influence, communication, facilitation, coaching, public speaking, overcoming resistance, elevator pitch, resilience, compassion.
