Biography

Bent Erik Bakken, holds degrees in Business, Economics, and Behavioral Science, including a Ph D from MIT. He has held analyst, researcher, and management positions at consultancies Atkins and DNV. He spent three decades in academia as a researcher and professor of National Security, Strategy, Complex Systems, and Managerial Accounting. He has been employed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, Norwegian Business School, Oslo Met University, and Norwegian Defence University. At DNV, he was the architect behind the Energy Transition model resulting in their annual Energy Transition Outlook, DNV's most downloaded analysis with close to 150 000 each year. Lately, he also designed DNV's global and regional Ocean Space Forecast, depicting the interaction between environmental changes, ocean biology and human economic activity.

He has been active in politics, and been deputy mayor at borough of Ullern (Oslo). He also runs Sangefjell Lodge, a mountain outfit devoted to sustainable tourism.
