Brandon Golob is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in Criminology, Law and Society at the University of California, Irvine. His research and teaching focus on the ways legal concepts are communicated to non-lawyers. Both inside and outside the classroom, he examines how legal knowledge is translated to laypeople through mediated and face-to-face communication.

Prior to joining the UCI faculty, Professor Golob received his dual B.A. in Rhetoric and Interdisciplinary Studies from UC Berkeley, his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Building from this diverse educational background, he seeks to create interdisciplinary classrooms that integrate the most effective pedagogical practices from a multitude of fields. An award-winning teacher, cultivating challenging but inclusive learning environments is at the heart of his professorial mission. Most recently, he was the 2021-2022 recipient of the UCI Inclusive Excellence Teaching Award representing the School of Social Ecology. This award recognizes instructors who create inclusive learning environments that promote growth and scaffold student success. Prior to that, he was selected as the 2020-2021 Professor of the Year by undergraduates in the School of Social Ecology and was the recipient of the 2020-2021 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentorship in the School of Social Ecology.
