Vice President and Medical Director of Healthcare Consulting Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Dr. Caveney is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of strategies to help employers better manage health care costs while improving the health outcomes of their employees. He also oversees the Healthcare Program Developers, Healthcare Program Managers, our full suite of wellness and disease management programs, and member engagement initiatives to improve the quality of preventive care for our Members. Prior to joining BCBSNC, Dr. Caveney served as physician and assistant professor at Duke University Medical Center. In addition to clinical practice, he co-directed the preventive medicine course in the Duke School of Medicine. Dr. Caveney also provided consulting services for several companies in the Research Triangle Park region, working on issues of employee wellness, benefit plan design, workers' compensation, disability, case management and regulatory compliance. He is an adjunct faculty at Duke, serves on the Lexis Nexis National Workers' Compensation Advisory Board and is the Editor-in-Chief of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, a three-volume treatise on occupational medicine. Dr. Caveney earned both an MD and a JD from West Virginia University, and an MPH in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center, is board-certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine with a specialty in occupational and environmental medicine, and continues to hold an active law license in North Carolina.
