Biography
The University of Auckland Business School
Brigid is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management and International Business. She teaches broadly in the area of organizational theory and practice at undergraduate and postgraduate level and has done extensive development work with corporate, community, professional, and youth organisations. In her development work Brigid has specialized in building collective capacity, whole system change, and intensive mindset shift work. Given she has a commitment to system and group dynamics and change, Brigid has recently begun a series of research and development work into grassroots and adaptive governance, and complex, transboundary, multi-sector collaboration. Increasingly she works with cross-faculty and interdisciplinary research and development teams.
Strong and ongoing research themes revolve around identity work, critical leadership studies, leadership development, and narrative/discourse theory. Brigid is interested in leadership as a discourse, identity, and practice and is exploring how it is constructed and shaped between people, spaces, and artefacts in different organisational contexts. She has written recently on the management/leadership relationship, the re-theorisation of role, different narrative/discourse approaches, leadership as practice, the relationship of leadership to constructs such as authenticity, resistance, governance, and learning and the aesthetics and power dynamics of leadership development.
