Chandrani Chatterjee

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to teach at the Indian School of Business and the University of Iowa. At the Indian School of Business, I have taught discussion sections for Managerial Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis for graduate students. At the University of Iowa, I have taught various courses in financial accounting for six semesters, which includes teaching discussion sections of an Intermediate Accounting course, assisting the lead instructors, and leading the whole curriculum of Introduction to Financial Accounting as a sole instructor. Moreover, as an accountant and a trainer of SAP FICO (Financial Accounting and Controlling module of the SAP software), my industry experience equips me with the skills required to teach and incorporate ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software into accounting courses.

While teaching various courses, I have seen that there are weak students in a class even in the best of institutions, not due to intellectual deficiency but because they come from a different background. This is truer for graduate programs in business schools; engineers taking accounting courses is a case in point. I have seen that students who find a course challenging are still willing to engage sincerely with its rigor if they find the teacher making specific efforts in reaching out to them. While helping weak students grapple with the course, I make sure to provide sufficient inputs to the best students in the class to enable them to progress in their trajectory. Therefore, I keep myself abreast of developments not only in the area of my research interest but also in all the areas that are in the learning interest of my students.
