Biography
University of Toronto
Wall-Andrews draws on a huge range of experience: as an academic, a sought-after speaker, and prolific program designer, and on years of hands-on collaboration with various communities. In essence, she is a creative practitioner who uses her talents to aid others in developing and applying similar skills to their work.
Nowhere is that more evident than her efforts as co-founder of Music&Brands, which fosters creative community and supports artists by helping them build a brand identity, navigate the music industry ecosystem effectively, and enhance their business acumen. In 2021, she will represent Canada at the G20 Summit (Young Entrepreneurs Alliance) to discuss policies that support entrepreneurship globally.
With over a decade of executive-leadership experience in Canada’s creative industries, Wall-Andrews is working on a Ph.D. at Ted Rogers School of Management (specializing in Strategy, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship). She also serves as a faculty member at University of Toronto and lecturer on Ryerson’s Faculty of Communication and Design, and most recently on the faculty at Massachusetts’ Northeastern University. Also, she spearheaded the creation of The TD Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship, Women in Music Accelerator Program, among other incubator programs.
In addition to a BA in music and an MA from York University, Wall-Andrews completed an MBA at Ivey Business School and the Association of Fundraising Professional’s inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship in Philanthropy program and is a graduate of Banff Centre’s Cultural Leadership program. In 2020, she was named a Trudeau Scholar, which is the most prestigious scholarship for Canadian Doctoral students, and continues to conduct research through the Diversity Institute. She also earned her CCIP Designation (Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional) form the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion.
She has been named one of the ‘Top 30 Under 30’ by Corporate Knights, the ‘Top 40 Under Forty’ by the Northern Ontario Business Association, received an ‘Alumni Leadership Award’ from her alma mater, and the Social Science Award from the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations. She has also been appointed as a Legacy Fellow by the prestigious Ariane de Rothschild Fellowship.
Additionally, she serves on the Board of Directors of WorkInCulture and the TELUS Community Investment Board and is the inaugural Vice-Chair of Music Canada’s Advisory Council. Previously, she was a member of the Board of Directors for Choral Canada, Laurentian University, Independent Living, and other non-profit organizations.
Wall-Andrews has also lectured and spoken at prestigious institutions and acted as a panelist and moderator at events such as Indie Week and Canadian Music Week in Toronto, the Measure of Music and Focus Wales Music Export Conference in the UK, and at other international conferences such as the Netherlands’ International Jazz Conference, SONIK Philippines, FIMPRO and BIME-PRO in Mexico and Spain, respectively – covering a wide range of topics and issues including the Importance of Public and Private Partnerships in fostering the Creative Industry, Equality in the Music Industry, as well as discussing the notion of entrepreneurship and innovation in the creative and cultural industries.
In 2021, Charlie Wall-Andrews joined a delegation to represent Canada at the G20 Summit (Young Entrepreneurs Alliance) to collaborate with global leaders to design policies that encourage inclusive entrepreneurial activity.
At the core, that’s driven by Wall-Andrews’ abiding desire to apply her research in the burgeoning academic study of entrepreneurship/creative innovation to have a positive impact on entrepreneurs and creatives and those who increasingly rely on their work across a wide spectrum of industries.
