BIO
CLINICAL: Dr. Lee is a senior interventional cardiologist at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS). Since 1998, he has performed over 3000 percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures, including emergency procedures for heart attacks. He was awarded the National Medical Excellence Award in 2011 for shortening the door-to-balloon time in treating patients presenting with a heart attack. His clinical practice focuses on general cardiology, interventional cardiology, and sleep disorders.
RESEARCH: Dr. Lee is a Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He aspires to conduct clinically relevant research and apply the knowledge to restore health. He has spent ten years (2012 to 2022) as a principal investigator in studying the impact of obstructive sleep apnoea on outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary artery bypass grafting. He has published over 200 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, including European Heart Journal, Circulation, and JACC. His other notable manuscripts have been published in Diabetes Care, JAMA, and Lancet Respiratory Medicine (invited editorial). He has been supported by the Singapore National Medical Research Council talent awards since 2012.
EDUCATION: Dr. Lee is also a passionate teacher who participates in lecturing and bedside tutorials. He received the 'Great Teacher Award' in 2021-2022. He has directly supervised over ten postgraduate and medical students in research, many of whom have won prestigious awards, including the NUS Outstanding undergraduate researcher prize, NUS Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) excellence award, and Lee Foundation Professionalism Award. He is involved in the annual admission exercise for the NUS YLL School of Medicine and the selection of senior residents for the Department of Cardiology, NUHCS. Dr. Lee is an examiner for 10 Ph.D. students and is currently supervising 2 Ph.D. students.
ADMIN: Dr. Lee is currently the Group Director of Clinical Research at the NUHCS and a member of the Faculty Promotion and Tenure Committee. He has also been elected the Governor of the Singapore Chapter American College of Cardiology.
