Chris Hankin is Co-Director of the Institute for Security Science and Technology and a Professor of Computing Science.
He was Deputy Principal of the Faculty of Engineering from September 2006 until October 2008. He was Pro Rector (Research) from June 2004 until September 2006. He was Dean of City and Guilds College from 2000-2003.
His research is in cyber security, data analytics and semantics-based program analysis. He leads multidisciplinary projects focused on developing advanced visual analytics and providing better decision support to defend against cyber attacks. He directs the NCSC/EPSRC Research Institute in Trustworthy Inter-connected Cyber-Physical Systems (RITICS - ritics.org).
He was chair of the Lead Expert Group for the Government Office of Science’s Policy Futures Foresight report on Future Identities.
He is Chair of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Europe Council and a member of the ACM Publications Board.
