Biography

Christian Matt is Professor and Co-director of the Institute of Information Systems at the University of Bern. He received his PhD in 2013 from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, where he also worked as an Assistant Professor thereafter.

He pursues research, teaching, and consulting on corporate digital transformation and value creation, data-based services and privacy, as well as on digital customer interfaces and experiences. In particular, he is fascinated by the socio-technical effects that digital technologies and data-based services have on firms and society alike. His research projects often pursue empirical, interdisciplinary approaches in areas such as intelligent decision support, digital business models and pricing, Internet of Things (IoT) and offline/online integration. As a member of the research unit "Law and Digitalization" of the Faculty of Law at the University of Bern, he supports the digital transformation in legal application domains.

Christian Matt has been working for SAP as well as a freelance consultant in the fields of IT services and digital business, serving clients across industries, such as software and IT, media, transportation, and enterprise associations. He supports firms, organizations and authorities in their digital transformation efforts, with consulting, dedicated trainings and specific practice-oriented publications.

He actively engages in cooperation with scholars and firms in various countries as part of several research and consulting projects. For instance, he is co-organizer of the "International Workshop on the Digitization of the Individual" (DOTI) that has taken place in Dublin, Seoul, San Francisco, and Munich. He has served as editor and guest editor of several well-known international journals and has been track chair at leading internal conferences to promote research in the academic community. The Association for Information Systems (AIS) has honored him as a Distinguished Member.

His research has been published in leading academic and practitioner-oriented journals such as Journal of Management Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Electronic Markets, Business and Information Systems Engineering, MIS Quarterly Executive, and several others.
