Christoph Franz

Dr. Christoph Franz, C.D., served as the Chairman of Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer at Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft (alternate name Deutsche Lufthansa AG) since January 1, 2011 until April 30, 2014 and served as a Member of its Executive Board since January 1, 2009 until April 30, 2014. Dr. Franz served as the Deputy Chairman of Executive Board at Deutsche Lufthansa AG from June 1, 2009 to January 1, 2011 and served as its Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa German Airlines until January 1, 2011. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Passenger Airlines since June 1, 2009. Dr. Franz served as the Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Lufthansa AG since August 18, 2008. Dr. Franz served as the Chief Executive Officer of Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. from July 1, 2004 to July 1, 2009. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Swiss Private Aviation AG. He served as Head of Sales of Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. since April 15,2005. From 1994 to 2004, he held different executive functions at Deutsche Bahn AG, among others as member of the executive board and Chief Executive Officer of the passenger transport division. He was Member of executive management in charge of passenger sales with the railway. From 1990 to 1994, he was with Lufthansa, where he was part of the team that planned that airline's financial turnaround after the Gulf War. He serves as Chairman of F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. Dr. Franz has been the Chairman and Non Executive Director of Roche Holding AG since March 4, 2014 and March 1, 2011 respectively. He served as Deputy Chairman of Swiss International Air Lines AG until July 2015. He has been a Director of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. since March 23, 2017. He has been a Director of Zurich Insurance Group AG since April 2, 2014. He serves as a Director of Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. He has been a Director of Stadler Rail AG since May 27, 2011. He served as a Director of Swiss International Air Lines AG (formerly Swiss International Air Lines Ltd.) from October 2009 to June 2016. He served as Member of Supervisory Board of Lufthansa Technik AG until September 16, 2015. He served as a Member of Supervisory Board of DF Deutsche Forfait AG until May 18, 2011. He served as a Director of JetBlue Airways Corporation from February 7, 2008 to May 26, 2011. He serves as a Member of the Board of Governors of International Air Transport Association. Dr. Franz served as a Member of the Advisory Council at DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH. Mr. Franz studied industrial engineering at the Technical University Darmstadt (Germany) and completed his studies with a PhD in economic sciences (Dr. rer. pol.) at the same university. He also studied at the Ecole Centrale de Lyon and the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Lyon (France) and did a post-doctorate research stint at the University of California, Berkeley.
