Dr Colm Fox joined SMU in 2014 after completing a PhD in political science at George Washington University. He also holds a Master of International Affairs from UCSD (US) and a BA degree in communications from Dublin City University (Ireland). Before becoming an academic Colm worked as an Art Director for over 10 years in the US.

Today, his research interests include political communications, elections, ethnic politics, the media, visual politics, and Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on Indonesia. He has published in international peer-reviewed political science and communications journals such as Comparative Political Studies, Journalism Studies, and Democratization amongst others. Additionally, he has a forthcoming book on ethnic politics and election campaigns in Indonesia which will be published by Oxford University Press. At SMU, Colm teaches classes on politics, the media, elections, content analysis, and survey design.
