University of Miami Business School
Cong (Alex) Shi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management Science at Miami Herbert Business School. Prior to joining MHBS, he served as an Associate Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from 2012 to 2023. He received his BS in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore in 2007 and his PhD in Operations Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012.
His research centers on designing and analyzing efficient and near-optimal algorithms for business operations, with main application areas encompassing supply chain management, revenue management, healthcare operations, and human-robot interactions. His research has received numerous accolades, including recognition from the INFORMS George Nicholson Paper Competition, INFORMS JFIG Paper Competition, Amazon Research Award, and Boeing Research Award. He also holds the position of Associate Editor for leading business school journals such as Management Science (MS) and Production and Operations Management (POM).
