The London School of Economics and Political Science

Corrado Macchiarelli is the Research Manager for Global Macroeconomics at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR). He is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer with tenure) in the Department of Economics and Finance at Brunel University London, and also teaches part-time at New York University Stern School of Business in London for the degree of International Political Economy and Global Business.

He completed a PhD in Economics at the University of Turin-Collegio Carlo Alberto and holds a post-doc from the LSE European Institute, where he lectured at the Executive Master level on the “Political Economy of Europe” degree. During Spring/Summer 2019, he was a Visiting Scholar in Economics at Harvard University's Centre for European Studies.

During the years 2015-20, Macchiarelli has been working as part of an LSE-based team of experts for the European Parliament in the context of the Parliament’s Monetary Policy Dialogue with the European Central Bank (ECB). Previously, he was an Economist in the ECB’s Euro Area Macro Division, working chiefly in the ECB’s Working Group of Forecast on Potential Output. He has been working on contract projects sponsored by the European Commission and the European Parliament, as well as he interned at the ECB and the International Monetary Fund, and was a project consultant for the Swedish Riksbank.

Corrado Macchiarelli’s work focuses on business cycles, macroeconomics, financial economics and European political economy. His main scientific publications include the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, the Journal of International Money and Finance, the European Journal of Finance, Economic Letters, the Review of International Economics, as well as The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics. In his latest book with M. Monti, C. Wiesner and S. Diessner, he explores the role of the European Central bank between the financial crisis and the upsurge of populist parties in Europe.
