Brookings Institution

Daniel Zovatto was a nonresident senior fellow with Foreign Policy’s Latin American Initiative at Brookings. He has been the regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) since 1997.

He is a political analyst for CNN en Español, and for various Ibero-American media outlets. He is an international speaker and visiting professor in various Latin American, European and North American universities, and an advisor to several Latin American governments.

He is a member of the Latinobarómetro international advisory board, as well as of the international advisory board for the Latin American Program of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (United States), the African Governance Programme of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation (England), the Council of Arab Relations with Latin America and the Caribbean (CARLAC), the editorial board of Foreign Affairs Latinoamérica and the external advisory board of the political studies department at the Salvadoran Foundation for Economic and Social Development (FUSADES).

In Argentina, he has been a corresponding member of the Academia Nacional de Derecho y Ciencias Sociales de Córdoba (the National Academy of Law and Social Sciences of Córdoba) since 2006, and in 2013 he was elected a corresponding member of the Academia Nacional de Ciencias Morales y Políticas de Buenos Aires (National Academy of Moral and Political Sciences of Buenos Aires).

He was president of the Expert Advisory Committee for Electoral Reform for the province of Córdoba, Argentina from 2007 to 2008, and was the president of the strategic planning board of the province of Córdoba from 2008 to 2012.

He has a Ph.D. in international law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and a Ph.D. in government and public administration from the Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gassett de España.

He has a M.A. in public management from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, as well as a M.A. in international studies from the Escuela Diplomática del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de España.

He holds a law degree from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, and has a licentiate degree in political sciences and international relations from the Universidad Católica de Córdoba.

He is the author of over 20 books and 100 articles on law, democracy, elections, political parties and governability in Latin America.
