LTG David Huntoon is a member of the Spectrum Group in Alexandria, VA. Prior to working at The Spectrum Group, LTG Huntoon was a senior leader in the U.S. Army who completed his career as the Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, 2010-2013, in the rank of Lieutenant General. During his leadership of West Point, it was ranked as one of the top public colleges in America by Forbes and US News and World Report.

From 2008 to 2010, LTG Huntoon was the Director of the U.S. Army Staff in the Pentagon, and was the Commandant of the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA, from 2003 to 2008. Other senior strategic leadership positions included Director of Strategy, Plans and Policy for the U.S. Army; Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS; Assistant Division Commander of the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, TX; and Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army.

As an infantry officer, LTG Huntoon served in a series of command and staff assignments in the U.S., Germany, Korea, and the Middle East. These assignments included combat deployments with the XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, NC in Operation Just Cause (Panama) and Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm (Kuwait/Iraq). He commanded an infantry battalion in Korea, and served as Chief of Plans for the Combined Forces Command and United Nations Command in Seoul. He commanded the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard and Escort to the President) in the Military District of Washington.

LTG Huntoon has a B.S. in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, an M.A. in Government from Georgetown University, and an MMAS from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He served as a National Security Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.

LTG Huntoon serves as a strategic coach and consultant to leader development, strategic planning, and human resource programs for the U.S. government and in the private sector. He guest-lectures on leadership, strategic thinking, and national security strategy as a Senior Fellow at George Washington University, as an Executive in Residence at the Brookings Institution, and at many other public and private sector professional organizations worldwide. Among over 60 keynote speeches, his audiences have included the Canadian, Royal Jordanian, Chilean, People’s Republic of China, Indian, and Pakistani War Colleges; the Australian, Afghani, Spanish, and French Military Academies; the American Society of Civil Engineers, Hiscox, The Registry, the leadership of the U.S. Secret Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the IRS, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Security Agency. He has conducted interviews with major global media networks, including Bloomberg, CEO Magazine, and the Atlantic Council.

LTG Huntoon is a Trustee with the Center for Excellence in Education, a non-profit organization which promotes exceptional accomplishment in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics scholarship. He is a Board Member of Dog Tag Inc., a disabled veterans small business certification program affiliated with Georgetown University. He has served as a Member of two Presidential Boards of Visitors, and on the Board of Trustees of the Naval Postgraduate School. He is the recipient of the American Psychological Association Robert Yerkes Award for contributions to military psychology.
