Biography

Stephen M. Ross School of Business

David M. Mayer is an Associate Professor in the Management and Organizations Area at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. His research interests concern social and ethical issues in organizations. Specifically, he conducts research in three major areas: (1) behavioral ethics, (2) organizational justice, and (3) workplace diversity. A hallmark of his research is a focus on the effects of the organizational context (e.g., leadership, coworkers, climate) on employees’ unethical and pro-social behavior. He has published over 50 articles/chapters including over 25 articles in the following top management journals: Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Personnel Psychology. He is currently an associate editor at the Academy of Management Journal.

Executive Leadership

Dave M. Mayer is the NBD Bancorp Assistant Professor of Management and Organizations. He joined the Management & Organizations faculty at the University of Michigan's Stephen M. Ross School of Business as an assistant professor in 2009. He has taught classes at all levels ranging from undergraduates, to MBA students, to Ph.D. students.

Dave conducts research, teaches, and consults in the areas of leadership and ethics. His research focuses on how leaders can develop their skills as well as how leaders can help create work environments that discourage unethical behavior and promote helpful behavior. Drawing on this research, Dave works with individuals and organizations to improve their ability to lead ethically and to help improve the interpersonal dynamics of their employees.

His research has been published in the top scholarly journals focusing on leadership and ethics such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Personnel Psychology, and he is on the editorial board of all of these journals. He has also written several books' chapters on issues surrounding leadership and ethics. Dave has worked with a variety of companies on these issues such as the Ethics Resource Center, Giant Eagle, Humana, Lockheed Martin, Personnel Decisions Research Institute, P.H.I. Consulting Group, Schwan's, and SunTrust.
