Heinz College

David Riel joined Carnegie Mellon in 2006. In 2015 David was appointed as an instructor for the eBusiness Technology Graduate Program under the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, which is primarily affiliated with the Institute for Software Research.

David also has adjunct teaching appointments with the Information Systems department at the Heinz College.

David’s research interests include technology application to education (Web 2.0, LMS, asynchronous teaching mechanisms, etc.), active learning methodologies (learning by doing, blended learning, flipped classrooms, etc.), digital disruption (Primarily in education), and distance learning mechanisms.

Prior to joining the Carnegie Mellon faculty in 2015, David has worked in many different facets of Information Technology including Software Engineering and Design, Network Administration and Engineering, Database Management, and IT security in numerous industry sectors including fashion, architecture, healthcare and education.
