Dr. Stewart received his BA in Psychology from the California Polytechnic University, and his PhD in Clinical Psychology from San Diego University/ University of California, San Diego Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Stewart was a Professor at Seattle Pacific University, and the Chair of their Clinical Psychology Department since 2013. He previously had been at the University of Washington, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. His academic work has focused on substance use in adolescents, and the influence of behavioral health interventions in medical treatment utilization among primary care patients with comorbid substance use and depression. His research has been funded from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, The National Institute of Mental Health, and other foundations. Dr. Stewart has mentored and chaired doctoral dissertations and is active in graduate psychology education and training, while also teaching child psychiatry fellows about counseling interventions for adolescent substance use disorders.
