Dennis Dijkzeul

Dennis Dijkzeul is professor in the management of humanitarian crises at the IFHV at Ruhr Universität Bochum, Germany, and an adjunct assistant professor at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, New York. He regularly consults for international organizations in Africa, Asia, Central America, Europe, and the United States. The last few years, he has mainly focused on the chronic humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His main interests concern the management of international organizations and the participation of local populations in humanitarian action. His recent books are Supporting Local Health Care in a Chronic Crisis (with Caroline Lynch: National Academies Press, 2005), Between Force and Mercy: Military Action and Humanitarian Aid (Berliner Wissenschaftsverlag, 2004) and Rethinking International Organizations: Pathology and Promise (with Yves Beigbeder, Berghahn Books, 2003).
