Dorcas is an Assistant Professor in Singapore Management University’s School of Law. She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2003 with an LL.B (with First Class Honours) and obtained her LL.M from Harvard University School of Law.

Upon completing her LL.M, Dorcas was a Visiting Researcher in Harvard Law School under the supervision of Emeritus Professor Frank Sander, who is widely regarded as a pioneer in the mediation movement. Dorcas’ research in the then nascent area of mandatory mediation was published in an article that has been cited globally by many, including Lord Justice Jackson in England.

Dorcas has also been District Judge in the Singapore State Courts for almost seven years, where she conducted mediation and early neutral evaluation for civil and criminal cases, contributed to the judicial policies on ADR and published extensively concerning dispute resolution. Dorcas has been accredited by the International Mediation Institute, Singapore International Mediation Institute, the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (UK) and the Singapore Mediation Centre.

Dorcas’ research focuses broadly on the interaction between dispute resolution and access to justice. Her work has been published in leading journals including the Harvard Law Negotiation Review, the Civil Justice Quarterly, and the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution. Her recent publications have explored the impact of judicial mediation and the use of Online Dispute Resolution on procedural and substantive justice.
