During this period, the team won the 2001 Tri Nations and Jones guided the Australian team to the final of the Rugby World Cup, which they lost after an extra time drop goal from Jonny Wilkinson.

After his sacking by the Wallabies in 2005, Jones spent more time in domestic rugby in both Australia and Japan. He also worked as an assistant coach for the South Africa national team when they won the Rugby World Cup in 2007.

In 2012, Eddie Jones was appointed as the head coach of Japan, who he would lead until 2015. He also led Japan to one of their most famous ever wins: a Rugby World Cup pool stage victory over South Africa.

At the end of 2015, Jones became England’s first ever foreign head coach. In his first full year in charge, he also led England to their first Grand Slam in 13 years. During this period, his England side became only the second international rugby team to go the entire calendar year unbeaten. This led to Jones being named as the World Rugby Coach of the Year in 2017.
