Elham Yousef

Vice Chair, Department of Family Medicine, UH Cleveland Medical Center Assistant Professor, CWRU School of Medicine Elham Yousef, MD, MSC, MBA, FACP, FHM, is an attending physician in both the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine departments and is Vice Chair of Family Medicine and Community health and the Asher’s Chair of Diagnostic Imaging. She is Assistant Professor of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Yousef is double board certified in internal medicine and family medicine and earned Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at the Weathered School of Management of Case Western Reserve, class of 2020. Dr. Yousef earned her medical degree from Assiut University, Faculty of Medicine in Egypt. She completed Internal Medicine Residency, Nephrology and Kidney Transplant training and Family Medicine Residency at Assiut University Hospitals, Egypt, Mansura Urology and Nephrology Center, Egypt and Rush University Medical Center, Illinois respectively. She earned her Master’s in Clinical Science and Internal Medicine from Assiut University Faculty of Medicine. Her Master’s degree thesis titled: “A Randomized Study of the Underlying Etiology of Chronic Renal Impairment in the Nephrology Out-Patient Clinic at Assiut University Hospital” was submitted in the fulfillment for the Degree of M.Sc.in Medicine, approved by the Thesis Committee, Assiut University Hospital, Egypt.

Dr. Yousef’s passion in medicine is to make diagnosis safe, accurate, and timely and to engage and partner with her patients and their families throughout the diagnosis process. Through her work and collaboration with the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine both in the Policy, Advocacy and Education committees, Dr. Yousef was among the committee that wrote “The Road Map for Research To Improve Diagnosis” that was presented to Congress and led to the newly enacted federal spending bill calling for improving medical diagnosis a “moral, professional and public health imperative”. Dr. Yousef is chairing the Society of Hospital Medicine Diagnosis Error Subcommittee, where she is focused on increasing awareness about diagnosis errors as well as improving diagnosis quality and safety of hospitalized patients.

Dr. Yousef has been invited to speak about diagnosis errors and diagnosis safety and presented workshops to multiple national and regional meetings including the Society of Hospital Medicine, Ohio Hospitals Association, American College of Physicians and Cleveland Clinic Institute of Medicine. Dr. Yousef serves as a peer reviewer to the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Yousef has a variety of health care interests which include, health care value and population health, quality and patient safety with special interest in diagnostic safety and transition of care, medical education, clinical reasoning and critical thinking, health care policy, professional development, and professional women advancement and advanced peer coaching.

Dr. Yousef is a member of several professional societies including the American College of Physician, Society of Hospital Medicine, Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine and American Medical Association and the previous Director of the Acute Care of the Foundation of Clinical Medicine of Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
