Elisa Giuliani

Professor at Università di Pisa

Biography

-

I am Professor of Management at the University of Pisa and founder and director of the Responsible Management Research Center (REMARC). I have been Visiting Professor at DMT – Bocconi University (2019-2020) and MIT Sloan School of Management (2017-2018). I am a Regional Studies Association (RSA) Fellow and member of the RSA Research Committee.

I study how companies contribute to innovation, economic inequality and human rights abuses. My work has centred around the technological catching up of firms from developing countries. Recently, I have studied the extent to which companies abuse human rights and what drives their behaviour. I have also contributed to explore the dark side of innovation by developing a new measure of patent toxicity.

I received my Ph.D. in Science and Technology Policy from SPRU, University of Sussex in 2005 and was a Jean Monnet fellow at the European University Institute in 2004-2005 and ESRC Post-Doctoral Fellow at SPRU in 2005-2006, before joining the University of Pisa. I am currently editor of Research Policy and in the editorial boards of Economic Geography, the Journal of Economic Geography and the Business and Human Rights Journal.
