Ellerie Weber is an Assistant Professor of Health Economics at the University of Texas Health Science Center’s School of Public Health, in Houston. She received her PhD in Business
Economics from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. Her research applies microeconomics and econometrics to the health sector, focusing on issues of competition, pricing, and quality in the health facility, health provider, and insurer markets. She has written and published on topics relevant to current health policy issues, including price transparency, retail clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, freestanding emergency departments, hospital prices and charges, and hospital-insurer bargaining. She has published in top journals such as Health Affairs and the Journal of Industrial Economics. Prior to joining UTSPH in 2013, Ellerie completed a post-doctoral fellowship at RAND-University of Pittsburgh’s Health Institute and was a visiting Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. At the Jones School, she teaches Economics of the Health Care Sector for the MBA and EMBA programs. Besides her PhD, Ellerie
also received an MBA the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.
