Biography

Eric Davoine is a graduate of ESCP Europe (Paris-Oxford-Berlin) and a master's degree in sociology from the University of Lyon. In 1999 he obtained a double doctorate in management sciences (Dr. rer. Pol.) From the universities of Lyon and Freiburg i. B. (Germany). He also followed the ITP 2007 program of IMD in Lausanne.

Appointed in 2003 as ordinary professor at FSES, he was from 1993 to 2003 doctoral student DFG, assistant and deputy secretary general of the Frankreich Zentrum of the University of Freiburg iB, then Lecturer at the University of Haute-Alsace, co- responsible for the Master in International Management-German-speaking Countries and the DU in Swiss Studies.

Since 2003, he has been Vice-Dean of FSES (2005-2007 and 2015-2016), president of the faculty (2011-2013), member of three faculty ( VMI ) and interfaculty ( ZEUS and IIEDH ) institutes councils and several university commissions and committees, including the university's appeals committee since 2014.

He is a member of PRN (NCCR) LIVES on the course of life.

Besides research and his bachelor's and master's courses at FSES, he is active in continuing education, as a speaker and as a member of the committees of the CAS "philosophy for executives" of the University of Friborg and of the MAS in HR universities in French-speaking Switzerland. He is a member of the board of AGRH (association of French-speaking researchers in HRM, of which he was vice-president from 2007 to 2014) and was guest professor in the master and PhD programs of various Universities and Grandes Ecoles (ESCP Europe, Paris Dauphine, Freiburg i. B., IAE Rennes, HEC Paris). He is in charge of the UniDistance Business Management course given in blended learning mode.

He is also a regular reviewer for the International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Global Mobility, International Journal of Training and Development and European Journal of International Management . He regularly contributes to the Swiss professional journals HR Today and Persorama.

Research areas

The research of Eric Davoine and his team covers several themes associated with the Human Resources function:

  • Assessment of HR practices and tools (recruitment, continuing training, digitalization of tools, skills management, etc.)
  • Behaviors, career paths and cognition of business leaders
  • HR practices in multinational companies and the influence of national contexts
  • International mobility and its consequences
  • National culture and languages in the transnational organization

Over the 2018-2023 period, this work focuses on careers, talent management and international mobility issues, and is being developed along three axes within the framework of three major research projects funded by the SNSF:

  • An axis on international mobility and gender issues focusing on highly qualified migrants in different professional contexts in Switzerland, this project is developed as part of the 3rd phase of NCCR LIVES (IP6): Gender, mobility and vulnerabilities in co-supervision with Professor Nicky Le Feuvre of the University of Lausanne.
