Eugene Itua

EUGENE O. ITUA is an established Safeguard Specialist with a Ph.D in Environmental Management. He is a Fellow of a number of organisations such as Nigerian Environmental Society; Society of Environmental Management and Pollution Control; Institute of Data Processing Management of Nigeria; Occupational Safety & Health Association and Lead International. He is the Chairman, Nigeria Branch of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management and a member of UNEP Live Community of Practice (GEO 6 Team) focusing on emerging issues; Integrated Measures for Monitoring, Healthy Planet, Healthy People (CoP) and Early Warning Systems in Africa

Over the years, Eugene has demonstrated strong professional effectiveness and knowledge on Environmental and Social (E & S) safeguard requirements of many project portfolios (some of them novel) and implementation needs of a number of development partners having participated in the preparation and/or supervisions of the implementation of many relevant safeguard instruments. Suffice it to say that Eugene developed the Environmental and Natural Resource Content (indicators/benchmarks & guidance notes) of Nigerian States Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM) and participated in the training of over 100 Consultants/Professionals. He also prepared the National Natural Capital Action Plan – Natural Capital Baseline Study in Nigeria for Globe International in support of World Summit of Legislators. In waste management, Eugene was the Secretary to Waste Management Society of Nigeria (Lagos) and has developed a number of initiatives and technical papers for different audiences. Only recently he assisted the Lagos State EPA to anchor the Policy on EWASTE Management through a review by the relevant stakeholders.

Eugene served as Chairman, Technical Partners for ISO 26000 Guidance Standard on Social Responsibility Nigeria Adoption Process and co-chairman the Technical Committee formed by Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on development of the National Procedure for Environmental Management System (ISO, 14000) Standards.

He is a Trainer and has demonstrated this over the years in a number of fronts training and mentoring various individuals to professionalism and providing‘hand-holding’ supports as the case may be.

Eugene is a recipient of a number of awards such as 2012 West African HSE Top Entrepreneur Icon Award in Ghana, Global Leader of Integrity Merit Award in Nigeria and 2014 African & Caribbean Business Council Award for Entrepreneurship in the city of Philadelphia, USA.
