Eva Gladek is the founder and CEO of Metabolic, a consulting, research, and venture building firm focused on tackling global sustainability challenges and advancing a circular economy. Eva founded Metabolic in 2012 with the mission of transitioning the global economy to a fundamentally sustainable and circular state. Metabolic provides strategies and tools, crunches data, creates new technologies, builds pilots and scales up innovations. Headquartered in Amsterdam, Metabolic has an international and interdisciplinary team working with governments, businesses, and non-profits around the world.
Eva holds a Master’s in Industrial Environmental Management from Yale University and a Bachelor’s in Molecular Biology from Amherst College. In her years of consulting work and concept development, Eva has advised hundreds of organizations, ranging from progressive cities such as Amsterdam to global NGOs like WWF, as well as industry leaders in nearly every economic sector. She is an expert in technical environmental management techniques such as Life Cycle Assessment and Material Flow Analysis, and has developed a number of frameworks for systems thinking and sustainable design. She is the acting CEO of Systemic, Metabolic's new software arm that builds decision support tools to make it easier for organizations to make the most sustainable decisions across their operations, and serves on a number of boards, including Amsterdam’s International Economic Development Board, Metabolic Institute, Metabolic Foundation, and Spectral. Eva also regularly provides keynotes at international conferences that explore sustainability and the circular economy. She has been featured in a range of media outlets, including the New York Times, The Guardian, PBS, and The Economist.
Eva consistently ranks as one of the top sustainability influencers in the Netherlands, a country recognized as leading the transition to the circular economy. She has been named in the Trouw’s list of top sustainability influencers each year from 2015-2018. In 2017, Eva was named in the Duurzame 50, which recognizes people who have the ‘power, charisma, contacts and vision to preserve the built environment.’ Metabolic has also received a number of awards for its work in urban development, agriculture, global supply chains, and decision-support tools.
