I am an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and the Director of the Master's Progamme in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management at the Aalto University Business School. I received my PhD in Economic Geography from the University of Turku in Finland, and my MA and BA in Sociology from the University of Graz in Austria. I have held research and teaching positions in Finland, Austria and the UK. My entrepreneurship research is pronouncedly multi-disciplinary, applying theories from psychology, sociology and geography. Combining quantitative and qualitative methods, my main research interests are: Social Legitimation of New Ventures and Venture Failure; Entrepreneurship Culture and Regional Development; Place Attachment in Sustainable Entrepreneurship; Venture Imagination and Everyday Enterprising in Adverse Contexts; Shared Emotions and Local Institutional Change; Wellbeing and Later Career Entrepreneurship. I am an Editorial Review Board Member of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and the International Small Business Journal. I also act as peer-reviewer for academic outlets such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Small Business Economics, Entrepreneurship & Regional Development and Regional Studies (overview of review contributions). In 2017, I have been selected as an Outstanding Reviewer for Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. Further, I am on the Advisory Board of the Amway Global Entrepreneurship Report and I am acting as Reviewer of Social Entrepreneurship Teaching Cases for Oikos International. My research has been published in outlets such as the Journal of Business Venturing, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Economic Geography, Small Business Economics, Journal of Business Research, Entrepreneurship & Regional Development, Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Economic Psychology, Journal of Business Venturing Insights, and Regional Studies. My work has also been featured at the Best Papers proceedings of the Academy of Management Conference, ISBE Conference and the Frontiers for Entrepreneurship at the Babson Conference for Entrepreneurship. Besides being Director of the Master's Programme, I am currently responsible for five Master's -level courses: Sustainable Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship & Society, Project Work, Researching Entrepreneurship and Master's Thesis Seminar. I am currently also responsible for around ten Entrepreneurship Master's thesis supervisions, and I am supervising three PhD students working in the following areas: Legitimation of Sustainable Enterprises, Business Venturing for Poverty Alleviation, and The Sketching of an Entrepreneurial Philosophy.
