Biography

HEC Paris

Federica De Stefano is an Assistant Professor of Management and Human Resources at HEC Paris. She is also a Senior Fellow of Wharton People Analytics and serves as elected Representative-at-Large for the Strategic Human Capital Interest Group of the Strategic Management Society (SMS). She also serves on the Editorial Board of Human Resource Management Review.

Her research focuses on how organizations achieve competitive advantage through human capital. In studying this topic, she has developed two interrelated research streams. In her first stream, she examines the strategic role of employee mobility in driving competitive advantage. She has conducted detailed research on the performance effects of turnover in the restaurant industry. She is currently studying how barriers to manager mobility shape the relationship between value creation and value capture from managerial human capital. In ongoing projects, she examines the drivers and performance outcomes of employee mobility inside organizations. In her second stream, she analyzes how offering "good" jobs can be a source of competitive advantage for organizations. Theoretically, her research seeks to speak to the literatures in strategy and human resources management. Empirically, much of her work is quantitative and based on field studies in organizational contexts in Europe and in the US.

Prior to joining HEC Paris, she was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration and Management, a M.Sc. in International Management, a BA in Management from Bocconi University in Milan (Italy), and a M.Sc. in Management Science and Corporate Management from Fudan University in Shanghai (China).
