Fernando Sotelino

Fernando B. Sotelino has been Adjunct Professor of international banking and business strategy for financial institutions at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) since 2005.  In addition to teaching, he has acted as faculty advisor to SIPA student teams in capstone consulting projects for international financial institutions such as Citigroup, UBS, IFC, and Standard Chartered Bank.

Professor Sotelino is also director of the board and senior advisor for the Americas of Brasilpar Ltd. (M&A advisory boutique) and a member of the international advisory board of Vermont Law School.

He was President of Unibanco (Brazil’s third largest private sector bank) from 1998 to 2004, after seven years as EVP and head of the bank’s international and investment banking division. Previously Professor Sotelino had spent five years (1986-1991) in charge of Citibank’s M&A and private equity businesses in Brazil (1986-1991) and seven years with Crocker Bank, California (1979-1986), managing corporate and project finance advisories in the U.S., Asia, and Latin America.

He co-authored with Professor Irene Finel-Honigman the book International Banking for a New Century, Routledge, Taylor and Francis, (UK), 2015. Professor Sotelino holds a Masters of Arts in Economics and an MBA with concentration in Finance from Stanford University, and a M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
