Biography

Stockholm School of Economics

With more than two decades of study of civil society and its organization, I have – together with my fellow scholars – established and today run the Stockholm Center on Civil Society Studies at SSE Institute for Research (SIR). We work with other civil society scholars from a wide range of countries and disciplines, and we regularly participate in international conferences where we present our research.

With a group of European colleagues, I serve as the editor for a book series with the German publisher Nomos and on the editorial boards of Journal for Civil Society, Voluntary Sector Review and Non-profit Policy Forum. I have previously taught at the School of Management at the University of Technology, Sydney, the School of Management at Trinity College, Dublin, and Wirtschaftsuniversität, Wien. I have earlier served as Professor at Ersta Sköndal University College (Stockholm) and as Visiting Professor at the School of Business at Stockholm University.

With a keen interest and active research in governance matters relevant both for organizations and for society, I have received numerous external grants and research contracts. The results are published primarily in English and Swedish; and most of the publications are made easily available on either academia.edu or researchgate.net (links to the right).

I have been fortunate to work with a number of talented doctoral students over the years, leading up to the successful completion of their PhDs. Teaching experience ranges from courses in general management and organization theory, to more specialized teaching in change management or civil society governance. I teach both at undergraduate and master level, instruct PhD students and also have a long-standing record of participating in various forms of executive training, in Sweden and elsewhere.
