Biography
The Florida International University College of Business
Flavio Carrillo is the director of the Capital Markets Lab and a member of the finance faculty at Florida International University’s College of Business. As director, he oversees all of the lab’s initiatives including community outreach programs.
A former teacher with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Carrillo is actively involved in education as well as in the financial industry. As an educator, he teaches multiple finance courses at the FIU Business and is involved in the development and implementation of the lab’s financial literacy curriculum. Given his passion for teaching and prior experience as a high school teacher, he actively participates in the lab’s many instructional sessions, especially those involving high school students.
Carrillo was also the founder and president of Microsigma Capital Management LLC, a Registered Investment Advisor. Microsigma, a quantitative focused investment firm, specialized in the construction of optimal (Mean-Variance) portfolios via the utilization of money managers. Currently, Carrillo maintains a footing in the industry by serving as a senior investment portfolio analyst at Raymond James.
Carrillo received his MS in finance and MBA from Florida International University and is currently completing a DBA program at the University of Florida. He also holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music from the University of Miami. His professional licenses include Series 7 and 65.
