Francesco Gallmann is a Senior Lecturer in Operations and Technology at SDA Bocconi School of Management. He is a Contract Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Università Bocconi.
At SDA Bocconi, he has developed and directed several educational programs both for the custom and the open-enrollment division: "Supply Chain and After Sales Academies" for a multinational company in the automotive sector, "Operations, Purchasing and Supply Chain customized programs" both for specific companies and Executive MBAs of other international partner institutions and "LEAN Study Tours conducted in JAPAN" represent just some examples of his initiatives. Recently, he has also designed and conducted a fully online customized program for a major customer in the food industry. He was a Board member of the SDA Bocconi Alumni Master Association for two mandates (2004-2010) with responsibilities for start-ups and development. Regarding his research, he has conducted numerous applied research, tutorship and consulting projects for multinational and medium-size companies, both in Italy and abroad, mainly in the automotive, food, fashion, design, biomedical, pharmaceutical, oil&gas, energy, electro-mechanical, household appliance and banking industries.
His research activities focus on operations and supply chain management, with a special focus on Performance measurement, LEAN management, quick response and agility, logistics, global SCM, collaboration practices, sourcing and procurement and after sales services. His current research addresses two main questions. The first relates to the identification of the major drivers and obstacles to excellence in operations and logistics. The second is aimed at analyzing the effectiveness of assessments to identify performance and Best Practices gaps in operations and the supply chain.
He is the author of numerous books and articles on his topics of interest. His works have been published both in academic and managerial journals: Operations Management Research, Economia&Management, Logistica e Management, Strategie&Procurement, among others. Thanks to the LEAN Study Tours in JAPAN, he won the SDA Bocconi Innovation Award for two consecutive years ('08 and '09) and was ranked in the TOP 10 business school programs in the world by the "L'Expansion" in '09. He is a Visiting Lecturer/Professor at the University of Klagenfurt (Klagenfurt, Austria, since 2016), at the IBSS-International Business School Suzhou (Suzhou, China, since 2014) and at the University HEC of Lausanne (Lausanne, Switzerland, 2008-2011). He also actively participates in the EUROMA and APICS Supply Chain Council international networks. He boasts international professional experiences in management consulting in multinational companies mainly in the automotive industry and as an entrepreneur in renewable energies (biogas).
Francesco, a Swiss citizen, earned a degree in Environmental Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, an MBA from SDA Bocconi and a Ph.D. in Management from Neuchâtel University (Switzerland). He is married with a child. Sailing, golf (Swiss National Champion in '86 and '87) and traveling in developing countries are his main passions.
