Biography

Melbourne Business School

Gary is one of Australia’s leading experts on the human-nature relationship, an experienced management consultant and the Executive Director of Melbourne Business School’s Centre for Sustainability and Business. He is an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne, a former Director with KPMG and holds a PhD in the role of nature in unlocking human potential and corporate nature responses.

Gary has over 25 years experience working with leading advisory firms, in industry and start-ups; often at the forefront of issues relating to innovation, growth, sustainability, research and investment. His clients have spanned many sectors including financial institutions, universities, not-for-profits, federal, state and local governments, high growth ventures, utilities, retailers, manufacturers, technology companies and industry associations.

In the human-nature space, his work includes leading research on everyday nature experiences across life course stages (e.g., for the Victorian Government and the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria), advising public and private enterprises on nature-related strategies; speaking in boardrooms, at conferences, on radio and elsewhere on topics as diverse as The Nature Of Work, The Nature Of Leadership, The Nature Of Prisons, The Nature Of Transport and The Nature Of Healthcare.

If you’re curious about why Apple adverts have often featured flowers, why fur babies are on the rise, and what all this has to do with purposeful work, employee engagement and well being, productivity and strategy, Gary is worth listening to.

The Nature Of was founded in 2017 as a unique advisory, training and research firm, now hosted as part of the Centre for Sustainability and Business at Melbourne Business School.
