Harvard Medical School

Gauree Gupta Konijeti, MD, is a gastroenterologist in San Diego who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. As head of the Scripps Clinic Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, Dr. Konijeti sees patients at all stages of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, whether they have a new or longstanding diagnosis. She also cares for those with a J-pouch — also known as ileal-pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA) — Kock pouch or end ileostomy. Dr. Konijeti also provides guidance to women with IBD who need help planning pregnancy or nursing.

She also has a strong interest in diet and nutrition in IBD. She works closely with colorectal surgeons, integrative medicine practitioners and nutritionists, as well as radiology, enterostomal and other specialists to provide state-of-the-art care for patients with IBD. She has received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct research evaluating the role of diet and nutrition for IBD, as well genetics, epigenetics and quality improvement in IBD.

Her clinical interests also include checkpoint inhibitor colitis, microscopic colitis (including lymphocytic colitis and collagenous colitis), colon cancer, eosinophilic esophagitis and eosinophilic gastroenteritis.

Dr. Konijeti provides comprehensive and compassionate care in a welcoming and therapeutic environment. She takes the time to listen and to thoroughly explain testing and treatment options so patients can make informed decisions about their care.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Konijeti is a member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization.
