Overview

Fungi are an important component of the microbes found in the soil, water and other environments. There main role is to degrade dead plants, insects and animals which are used for there own growth and are essential for recycling dead materials in the environment. Our research looks at the role of these organisms in this process and in particular, how these organisms can colonise, grow and ultimately degrade man made polymers and plastics whose accumulation in the environment is of major concern worldwide.
