Han She Lim

Lecturer of Hydrology at James Cook University

Biography

My research interests are in the hydrology of tropical catchments and using hydrological models to understand and model hydrological response behaviour. My research so far has focused primarily on catchments that experience distinct seasonality in rainfall (i.e. in Thailand) using a combination of fieldwork data collection and hydrological modelling. More recently, I have been involved in assessing the water quality impacts of 'green technology' such as green roofs, bioretention systems and rain gardens.

Specialties:

  • Fieldwork (rainfall, runoff, soil moisture monitoring, water and soil sample collection and laboratory processing)
  • Laboratory testing experience (experience running equipment such as Malvern particle sizer, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, TOC machines, Optical luminescence dating, etc)
  • Hydrological modelling (IHACRES, TOPMODEL, Data-based mechanistic models, HEC-RAS)

My work involves the following areas:

  • Rainfall-runoff processes in tropical catchments
  • Soil moisture dynamics
  • Water quality in tropical catchments
  • Limnology
  • Green technology (green roof, rain garden, bioretention systems)
  • Flood generation/risk analysis of contemporary and paleofloods
