Helene C. Weldt Basson is a noted specialist on the Paraguayan writer Augusto Roa Bastos and received an honorary doctorate from La Universidad del Norte in Asunción, Paraguay in 2012 for her work on this writer. She has written two books on Roa Bastos: I The Supreme: A Dialogic Perspective (University of Missouri Press, 1993), and the edited collection Postmodernism’s Role in Latin American Literature: The Life and Work of Augusto Roa Bastos (Palgrave/Macmillan, 2010). She also recently published a translation and critical edition of Roa Bastos’s novel El fiscal titled The Prosecutor by Augusto Roa Bastos Translated with Commentary by Helene Carol Weldt-Basson (FDU Press, 2018).
Her other books include: Subversive Silences: Nonverbal Expression and Implicit Narrative Strategies in the work of Latin American Women Writers (FDU Press, 2009), Masquerade and Social Justice in Contemporary Latin American Fiction (University of New Mexico Press, 2017), El invierno de Gunter de Juan Manuel Marcos y la posmodernidad en Paraguay (Punto de Encucentro, 2018) and the edited collections Redefining Latin American Historical Fiction: The Impact of Feminism and Postcolonialism (Palgrave/Macmillan, 2013) and Postmodern Parody in Latin American Literature: The Paradox of Ideological Construction and Deconstruction (Palgrave/Macmillan, 2018).
