Biography

Ivan Boissières is General Manager of the Institute for an Industrial Safety Culture (ICSI), an organization in the field of industrial safety. ICSI was created in 2003, and is the result of a joint initiative led by industries, academics and researchers, regional authorities, NGOs and trade unions. In this context, he regularly interacts with business leaders in the major industrial groups (energy, transport, construction, etc.).

He holds a PhD in the sociology of organizations, and since 2010 has been Affiliate Professor at ESCP Europe, where he co-directs the Executive Post-Master’s degree “Managers in at-risk organizations”, and is involved in various executive education programs. His work focuses on the managerial and strategic dimensions of safety, based on three principal themes: human and organizational factors, safety leadership, and safety culture. He has given numerous presentations and lectures, and has published (either alone or with others) many articles and books. More recently, he has extended his activities to e-learning, which has led to the creation of an online Safety Academy and Safety Education platform.

Finally, he is a member of various commissions and committees, such as the Research Committee of the Board of Directors for the Foundation for an Industrial Safety Culture (a non-profit research foundation) and the Social, Organizational and Human Factors Committee of the French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN). He is a member of an expert group in the context of the European Commission’s European Technology Platforms and, more recently, has worked with the Canadian Foundation for Innovation.
