Cox School of Business

Doug Hanna studies financial accounting and financial reporting. Specifically, his research looks at the role that cash flows and accruals play in the interpretation of financial information by capital markets and financial analysts.

Hanna currently teaches at the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University where he is Associate Professor of Accounting. He was a full-time member of the Booth faculty from 1993-2004 and taught Financial Accounting and Financial Analysis in the MBA program. He also taught Financial Accounting in the Executive MBA programs in Europe, Asia and Chicago. In 2002, Hanna was the recipient of the Hillel J. Einhorn Award for teaching in the Domestic Executive MBA program and the Hillel J. Einhorn Award for teaching in the European Executive MBA program.

Hanna earned a Ph.D. from Cornell University, and a Masters of Accounting and B.A. (Honors Economics) from the University of Waterloo (Canada). He currently holds a Canadian CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation and has previously held the Canadian CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation.

Research Interests

Financial reporting and financial analysis. Specifically, the role that cash flows and accruals play in the interpretation of financial information by capital markets and financial analysts.
